Meet Your 5th Grade Teacher

Mrs. Carter

Hi everyone! My name is Brandy Carter. I am so glad to have your student in my class this year. Please  feel free to email me or call me with any questions or concerns you may have during the coming school year. My main goal is to make sure that your student has the best year that they can. I am looking forward to working with you to achieve this goal.

About Me

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I can remember going to school everyday at Ossun Elementary in the 1980's and thinking that I wanted to teach someday. Teaching is truly a dream come true for me.

I was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana. I am 40 years old. I married the man of my dreams in December 2009. My husband, Shane Carter, works for the police deparment on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus. We have three children, a daughter named Brandon, a son named Aaron, and a  daughter named MacKenzie. Brandon is 21 years old and in lives on her own. She works at AT&T. Aaron is 18 years old and graduated from Lafayette High School last year. He will be starting college in January. Last but not least, MacKenzie is 5 years old. She is in kindergarten here at Green T. Lindon.

About Me

I graduated from college in 2007 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from University of Louisiana at Lafayette. This is my eighth year of teaching. I started out teaching 4th grade at Johnston Elementary School in New Iberia. I loved teaching in New Iberia, but I realized the drive was too long to continue teaching so far from home.

The next school year, I took a temporary position in 2nd grade at Carencro Heights Elementary School in Carencro, while another teacher was on maternity leave. During the first six weeks of the year, the school had to open a fourth section of 5th grade. I was offered the class and started teaching 5th grade in September.  We had a wonderful year and my 5th graders learned a lot.

The following year, I was transferred to Ossun Elementary School in Lafayette. I was there for 4 years and absolutely loved it. I hated to leave but my husband was transferred to North Dakota in 2013.

In September of 2013, we moved to Wyoming. It was very beautiful there. I was able to stay home and raise our daughter. After two years, we started to miss Louisiana. Then we were given the opportunity to move back in June of 2015. We are very glad to be home.

That August, I started teaching 5th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies at Youngsville Middle School in Youngsville. It was my first year on a middle school campus. Teaching in a middle school was different, but I absolutely loved it. At the end of the year, our grade level was told we were moving to the elementary feeder school for Youngsville Middle.

I know I am going to love it at Green T. Lindon. I can't wait to start a new adventure in a new place. I'm excited to get back in the classroom. I'm looking forward to an awesome year with wonderful students.
